A group of influential 19th-century Post-Impressionists who, inspired by the work of Paul Gauguin and the Symbolists as well as Japanese woodcuts, emphasized personal style and the capacities of painting over observed reality. Notable Nabis include Maurice Denis and Pierre Bonnard.
